If you're buying a few fixtures, almost any supplier can look convincing. Bulk purchasing is a different game. Once the order reaches a few hundred or even a few thousand units, production consistency, lead time, and quality control suddenly become far more important than a polished catalog.
Think Beyond the Price Tag
I've watched buyers save 5% on unit cost, only to spend twice that replacing failed drivers six months later. It happens more often than people admit. A factory that performs thermal testing, aging tests, and waterproof verification before shipment usually delivers lower lifetime costs—even if the quotation isn't the cheapest.
Where Professionals Actually Source
Many distributors buy directly from Chinese OEM manufacturers rather than through multiple trading companies. Industrial hubs in Guangdong and Zhejiang remain popular because they offer mature supply chains for LED chips, die-cast aluminum housings, drivers, and optical lenses. Some manufacturers, including Likelite, also support private labeling and customized beam angles, which is handy if you're building your own brand.
Ask Better Questions
Don't just request a price list. Ask for IES files, LM-80 data, surge protection details, and photos of the production line. Sounds picky? Good. Serious factories expect those questions. I even ask how they handle incoming material inspections—yeah, maybe that's just the engineer in me.
Relationships Win
Here's something people rarely mention: the best supplier isn't always the biggest one. A responsive factory that remembers your packaging requirements, keeps spare parts available, and tells you honestly when a delivery date is unrealistic is often worth far more than a famous name. I've made that mistake befor, and I don't plan on repeating it.
